Swarming Bee's

Evidently, bee's swarm when looking for a new home, make a few attempts at a new home before finding something that is suitable. They swarmed in my backyard today and are attempting to make a home in my oak tree! A beekeeper that I called said they are peaceful and will move on in a day or two. I hope so. The picture shows the mass of bee's. The branch on the tree is about an inch in diameter. It is something to see!

I had a swarm of bees show up on a red oak tree in my back yard today. Looks very similar to your's. So, I googled "swarming bees" and got your blog. I see you posted it July 7. I'm wondering if we are in same area. I'm in Missouri City, Texas, just southwest of Houston
Gary,
I am in Buckley, Washington, that is Western Washington. My swarm is still in my tree the next morning. I spoke to a beekeeper and he thought the swarm would move on to a more suitable location within a day or two. The bee's seem very peaceful, if it is still there this afternoon I may call that beekeeper again and see if he can come by and relocate it. Evidently it is common practice for someone like that to relocate the bees.
